Plans afoot for Romanian solar park with installed capacity exceeding that of Cernavoda n-reactor

A solar power park with an installed capacity higher than that of a Cernavoda nuclear reactor will be built in Romania in a move that reflects the investors' appetite to return to this market, president of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) George-Sergiu Niculescu said on Thursday."Since I took over at ANRE, I've seen an application for an establishment license - I think this is the largest facility so far, a solar power park of approximately 1,050 MW, this is just an example I give you to emphasize the investors' appetite to return as players on this market. 1,050 MW for a single photovoltaic power station, this is a very large investment; it means an installed capacity higher than that of a Cernavoda reactor, and this is about to be built in Romania. (...) For us not to shift dependence from Russian natural gas to foreign-produced equipment, I think it is very important for Romania to have a photovoltaic panel factory to supply the domestic market," George-Sergiu Niculescu told the 4th edition of the Romanian Solar Summit."I think that Romania lacks a photovoltaic panel factory. I consider that Romania has the advantage of being located in a strategic area so that if we carry out such investments, we will supply not only the domestic market and the domestic demand for such equipment, but the regional market as well," added the ANRE head.
