    ACWA Power to commission wind farm in Azerbaijan in 2025

      Baku/26.05.23//Turan: ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia) will commission a 240 MW Khizi-Absheron wind farm in Azerbaijan in 2025, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan reports. The issue of the construction of the plant was discussed at the meeting of Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, who is on a visit to Saudi Arabia, and Chairman of the Board of ACWA Power Mohammed Abunayan.

      According to the report, during the meeting, the parties discussed the state of affairs on the construction of the Khizi-Absheron wind farm with a capacity of 240 MW, the construction of wind farms on sea and land with a total capacity of 2.5 GW and the creation of energy storage systems. The parties reviewed the action plan and deadlines for the implementation of the Khizi-Absheron project. The parties discussed issues arising from the signed contracts and the issue of accelerating the construction of the station was agreed upon. It is stated that the Khizi-Absheron power plant will be put into operation in 2025.

      Shahbazov also invited ACWA Power to participate in green energy projects in Nakhchivan.

      On January 9, 2020, in Baku, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan signed an executive contract with the Saudi company ACWA Power for the construction of a wind power plant with an installed capacity of 240 MW. In December 2020, an "Investment Agreement" was signed between the Ministry of Energy and this company, and an "Agreement on the purchase and sale of energy" and an "Agreement on connection to the Distribution Network" were signed with Azerenergy OJSC for the implementation of this project.

      As part of the project, 40 turbines with a capacity of 6 MW each will be installed. Of these, 17 wind turbines will be installed in the village of Pirekyushkul in the Absheron district and 23 turbines in the village of Sitalchai in the Khizi region. -0-
