Energy storage firm Moxion to build battery gigafactory in US

    May 26, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

May 26 (Renewables Now) - US mobile energy storage solutions provider Moxion Power plans to build an energy storage gigafactory in the US which is designed to have a battery manufacturing capacity of more than 7 GWh annually.

The 205,000-square-foot (19,045 sq m) facility, Moxion’s second one, will be based in Richmond, California and will be adjacent to the company’s existing factory at the Ford Point Assembly Plant. It is expected to produce around 10,000 mobile energy storage products per year, a press release said.

The project is being developed at Terminal 3, an underutilised port terminal at The Port of Richmond, the third largest deepwater port by volume in the state, a press release said on Thursday.

Moxion develops mobile batteries that can be charged with renewable energy. Its products are designed for industries that have historically relied on generators for temporary power, including construction, film, live events, disaster response, utilities and defence.

The energy storage firm in March inked a multi-million dollar purchase order to provide more than 600-MP-75/600 mobile battery units to construction equipment and tools provider Sunbelt Rentals over the next year.

Moxion has so far raised more than USD 110 million (EUR 102.5m) in two fund-raisers and counts among its backers Amazon Climate Pledge Fund, the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, Marubeni Ventures and Energy Impact Partners and Tamarack Global.

      (USD 1 = EUR 0.932)
