Verbund: Large PV installations for industry and production

    May 26, 2023 - Contify Energy News

Austria’s leading energy company supports industrial enterprises in Austria with the PV operator model. VERBUND guarantees lower electricity costs in the long term than for a grid-based supply. The photovoltaic systems are adapted to the electricity consumption profile of the company. “We have to act decisively and combine our forces even more strongly. The transformation of the energy system requires more intelligent, interconnected and sustainable solutions,” says Martin Wagner, Managing Director of VERBUND Energy4Business GmbH.

      Original Press Release:

Essen, May 17 -- Verbund AG issued the following news release:

Companies that rely on the power of the sun clearly have the upper hand. With PV installations, they are becoming more independent, climate-neutral and cost-efficient. That is why VERBUND, Austria’s leading energy company and one of Europe’s largest generators of electricity from hydropower, supports industrial enterprises in Austria with the PV operator model.

Producing, consuming and profiting from solar power

Companies that rely on the power of the sun clearly have the upper hand. With PV installations, they are becoming more independent, climate-neutral and cost-efficient. That is why VERBUND, Austria’s leading energy company and one of Europe’s largest generators of electricity from hydropower, supports industrial enterprises in Austria with the PV operator model.

      Cleaner, safer and more affordable

Photovoltaics is at its most effective when the generated energy is consumed on the spot, without making a detour via the power grid. Ever more entrepreneurs are benefiting from this simple principle and using photovoltaics in grand style. Apart from environmentally friendly energy generation and a reduction in CO2, VERBUND guarantees lower electricity costs in the long term than for a grid-based supply. The photovoltaic systems are adapted to the electricity consumption profile of the company and ensure that almost 100% of the generated electricity flows directly into production. A positive side-effect is the reduction in the CO2 footprint. This means that production and sustainability complement each other and companies benefit from many more years of clean electricity from in-house generation at zero cost, even after the contract expires.

      Reaching climate targets together

Getting into solar power production is pretty easy with the VERBUND operator model. VERBUND installs the photovoltaic facilities at its own expense and risk. The companies procure the solar power for a fixed agreed price inclusive of all charges and levies. “We have to act decisively and combine our forces even more strongly. The transformation of the energy system requires more intelligent, interconnected and sustainable solutions,” says Martin Wagner, Managing Director of VERBUND Energy4Business GmbH. "We are a strong energy partner and offer everything under one roof – from the supply of electricity and green electricity certificates to business solutions for photovoltaics, battery storage, flexibility marketing and charging infrastructure for electromobility. We accompany and support our customers holistically on the way to the energy future."

      See the big picture

VERBUND is not a classic facility builder. The company considers the topic from an overall energy sector perspective. The operation of renewable energy sources and their optimisation on the energy markets is a core competence of VERBUND and simultaneously also a major differentiator from pure PV facility installers.

“Our customers benefit from the best purchase terms for components, tight planning and construction management. Incorporation into an overall energy concept as well as efficient maintenance are the key factors for success here and guarantee our customers a safe and clean power supply," says Wagner. Leading Austrian companies such as OMV, Lenzing, Borealis, Lafarge, SGL, voestalpine and Magna already rely successfully on holistic energy solutions from VERBUND and use the power of the sun in grand style.
