Norwegian company Ocean Ventus has developed floating offshore wind turbines that is said to be equipped with foundations that weighs much less than those of its competitors. This means construction costs that are 30-40% lower, according to Head of the company Ingvar Apeland. The company is looking to build a factory in Norway with an initial production of 50 structures per year, Production may start in 2028 for delivery to licensing rounds on key markets. The offshore wind turbines has a design where the foundations can be mass produced using a similar method as for substructures of bottom-fixed turbines. Maintenance work can be carried out offshore in the wind farm using a separate patented vessel, which causes less downtime.
