    790 MT AND RISING: BIG & SMALL MDOs HELP MEET COAL DEMAND

      Data collated by Business Standard shows that 82 mines with a total annual production of around 790 million tonnes (MT) are being operated and mined by mine developers and operators (MDOs). These mines have been awarded to several public sector companies such as NLC India Limited, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), and NTPC Limited, and power generation companies of several state governments. Presently, there are 15 MDO tenders under process with a cumulative capacity of 112 MT per annum. The leading MDOs include Adani Mining Private Limited, Essel Mining and Industries Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited, BGR Mining

      and Infra Limited, and Sainik Mining (India) Limited.
