May 31 (Renewables Now) - Italy-based renewable energy company Renantis SpA on Wednesday announced Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) as the corporate off-taker of electricity produced by a pair of wind farms totalling 59 MW it is building in Finland.
The US e-commerce and technology group signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Renantis to help decarbonise the electricity consumption of its corporate ofices, fulfillment centres and Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres, a press release reads.
The Mustalamminmaki and Koiramaki wind farms are currently under construction in Karstula, central Finland. They are expected to reach commercial operation at the end of 2023 and generate a combined 174 GWh per year, once fully operational, Renantis said.
Mustalamminmaki and Koiramaki are the first wind power projects developed by Renantis in Finland.
As for Amazon, the tech giant is on track to power its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025, five years ahead of its original 2030 target, Lindsay McQuade, Director of Energy at Amazon, said.
