China urges parties to avoid actions that endanger nuclear facility in Ukraine

    June 1, 2023 - Vietnam News Gazette

31 May 2023 (VOV5) China urges all parties involved in the Ukraine crisis to avoid any actions that endanger nuclear facilities and avoid unexpected incidents, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN Geng Shuang spoke at the UN Security Council meeting in New York City, on Tuesday.

Geng Shuang said that despite warnings and calls from the international community, including China, military operations at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine and surrounding areas continue to take place, resulting in repeated interruptions in the power supply, damage to related structures, and increasing military risks in the region.

The Chinese diplomat urged parties to adhere to the spirit of humanity, science, common sense and communication.

Countries with significant influence should play a responsible and constructive role rather than complicate the situation, he said, adding that China will remain committed to peace negotiations and play a constructive role in promoting a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.
