Masdar installs first wind turbine within its 500 MW project in Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 2. The UAE's Masdar has installed the first wind turbine with a capacity of 4.7 MW within the construction of a 500 MW wind power station in the Tomdinsky District of the Navoi region of Uzbekistan, Trend reports.

As the Uzbek Energy Ministry reported, the turbine was supplied by the Chinese Goldwind company.

The height of the wind turbine reaches 97 meters, with each blade measuring 77 meters in length. At the same time, a total of 111 wind turbines will be installed as part of this project.

The initial capacity of the wind power station is expected to be operational by the end of this year, making it the largest wind power station in Central Asia.

Once fully operational, the station will generate 1.8 billion kWh of electricity per year, resulting in a savings of 540 million cubic meters of natural gas and preventing 720,000 tons of harmful emissions into the atmosphere annually.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Energy and Masdar have signed an agreement for the joint development of 2,150 MW and 500 MW solar PV and wind power plant projects worth $2.6 billion.

Back in 2021, Masdar signed agreements with the Uzbek Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade, and the JSC National Electric Grid to design, finance, build and operate three solar power plants – the 457 MW Sherabad region, and 220 MW each Samarkand and Jizzakh regions of Uzbekistan. The company plans to put the plants into operation in 2024.
