RIGA, June 5 (LETA) - The government plans to approve regulations intended to facilitate the attraction of investors for wind energy projects in a week or two, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) said today after a coalition meeting.
t the weekly coalition meeting on Monday, Climate and Energy Minister Raimonds Cudars (New Unity) informed coalition partners on the progress of the development of Latvia's wind energy projects, Karins said.
The prime minister explained that the government's aim is to ensure the availability of energy in the coming years in order to ensure energy independence, in particular to prevent the need to import energy from Russia in the future.
The government also intends to adopt a mechanism to provide energy support in the long term when needed. If an energy crisis were to occur again in the future, with unplanned price increases, a mechanism would be in place to support households and businesses, Karins explained.
