Multi-energy company TotalEnergies (Paris:TTE) (LSE:TTE) (NYSE:TTE) announced on Wednesday that it is ramping up its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production and low carbon energy development at the Grandpuits site.
The expansion includes doubling SAF production capacity to 285,000 tons annually, meeting the EU's 6% minimum SAF requirement for 2030.
Additionally, a biomethane production unit will be constructed, utilizing organic waste from the biorefinery to produce 80 gigawatthours (GWh) of biomethane per year, preventing the emission of nearly 20,000 tons of CO2 annually. This investment solidifies TotalEnergies' leadership in biogas production in France.
Bernard Pinatel, President of Refining & Chemicals at TotalEnergies, stated: "The zero-crude platform at Grandpuits will be a major French site for the production of sustainable aviation fuel, which is the most effective solution for immediately cutting CO2 emissions from air transport."
In light of these new investments, TotalEnergies affirms the retention of 250 jobs at the Grandpuits site, aligning with its commitments made in September 2020.
TotalEnergies added that it is actively developing sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) derived from waste and residues from the circular economy, as well as synthetic fuels for aviation. These fuels aim to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from air transport.
