In Sweden, electricity grid operator Svenska Kraftnät plans to restart gas-fuelled combined cycle power plant Öresundsverket in Malmö. Plant owner Sydkraft, part of Uniper group, has now been commissioned to restore the plant to operational status. The aim is for the plant to be on stand-by for isolated operation, where Malmö can be self-sufficient in electricity so that the essential functions of society can be secured. Sydkraft has been granted SEK 1.10bn (EUR 96.73mn USD 106.97mn) for the project, which will cover restoration in addition to preparedness for a period of five years as of 2025. Sydkraft must also void the existing agreement for selling the plant.
