    Leontyev: partial destruction of Kakhovka hydroelectric station in Ukrainian bombing

      MOSCOW June 06. 2023 (Saba) - Head of the Novaya Kakhovka city administration Vladimir Leontyev has confirmed that the upper part of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station was destroyed in the Ukrainian bombing, without the water reservoir dam being demolished.

      Leontyev said in a statement reported by Russian Novost" agency "At two o'clock in the morning, several strikes hit the upper part of the hydroelectric power station, where the valves are located, which led to its demolition as for the dam itself, it was not destroyed, fortunately."

      He stated that the water level in Kherson province downstream of the Dnieper River in the partial destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station, rose by 2.5 meters.

      Leontyev said that the situation does not require the evacuation of the residents of the city of Novaya Kakhovka itself, but it may require the evacuation of residents in some villages and towns located towards the mouth of the Dnieper.

      The Russian official warned that the damage to the station could cause problems in the water supply of Crimea.

      For his part, head of the "We are with Russia" movement inZaporizhzhia province Vladimir Rogov confirmed that the destruction of the valves of the Kakhovka plant does not pose a direct threat to the the province nuclear power plant.
