Taiwan's Formosa 2 offshore wind project begins commercial operations.

    September 12, 2023 - NS Energy

Formosa 2, a 376 MW offshore wind project in Taiwan, has achieved the commercial operation date (COD) and entered the operations and maintenance (O&M) stage. It is the first Round 2 offshore project in the country to meet the COD. The facility is jointly held by JERA (49%), Macquarie Asset Management's Green Investment Group (26%), and Synera Renewable Energy (25%). It is positioned 4-10 km off the coast of Miaoli County in the northwestern part of the country and next to the 128 MW Formosa 1 offshore wind plant. The offshore wind facility includes 47 turbines at 8 MW each, deployed in Jan 2023, followed by a full grid connection in Mar 2023. In a separate development, Microsoft and JERA have collaborated to develop advanced cloud solutions to boost operational performance and lessen the environmental impact of power facilities. The deal aims to advance the workstyle transformation, address global power struggles, and back sustainability. Under the partnership, the two firms will expand JERA's Digital Power Plant (DPP) solutions package and workstyle transformation in the power sector. The crucial elements of the deal involve co-developing advanced O&M solutions, forming a joint operational structure, and jointly allowing customer success.
