Protesters in Badin Demand Relief from High Electricity Bills and Load Shedding

    September 18, 2023 - Daily Regional Times

Residents of Badin took to the city's streets to protest against soaring electricity bills and persistent power outages. They staged a demonstration on the Badin-Hyderabad road, resulting in a confrontation with the police.

Frustrated by exorbitant electricity bills and what they perceived as the heavy-handedness of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), locals held a sit-in protest in front of the HESCO office. This protest brought traffic on the Badin-Hyderabad road to a standstill from both directions. The ongoing issues have left many struggling to put food on the table for their families.

Furthermore, the people have voiced their discontent with HESCO for sending unwarranted bills and, despite payment, disconnecting their electricity connections. They cited skyrocketing prices of essential commodities like flour, sugar, rice, and pulses, which have left them financially strained and unable to cope with escalating electricity costs.

Frustration has reached its peak among the public due to these economic pressures. In response, groups of young activists have organized protests against HESCO in various parts of the city. They are demanding the annulment of unjust bills and the reversal of electricity price hikes by the authorities.
