Spain's Ecoener commissions 97 MW of Dominican solar

    September 19, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

September 19 (Renewables Now) - Spanish renewables developer Ecoener SA (BME:ENER) announced on Tuesday that it has commissioned two solar photovoltaic plants in the Dominican Republic, bringing online a total of 97 MW of capacity.

The plants, Cumayasa I and II, enabled Ecoener to boost is operational capacity in the Dominican Republic to 300 MW from 203 MW, the group said.

“Apart from contributing to the decarbonisation of the country, the photovoltaic panels have been installed entirely by women,” Ecoener said in the announcement.

The Cumayasa I and II solar farms will together generate 192 GWh of electricity per year. They will operate under a pair of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Dominican retailer and distribution company Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este SA (Edeeste), which Ecoener signed earlier this year.

The company stands to earn more than EUR 250 million (USD 267.5m) throughout the duration of the PPAs, it said.
