MWM Launches TCG 3020 Gas Engines and Retrofit Kits for Hydrogen Operation with Admixture of up to 25 vol%

    September 19, 2023 - Contify Energy News

MWM has launched the TCG 3020 gas engine series that supports operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol% without any technical modifications. MWM offers the MWM 25H2 kit for retrofitting gas engines of the TCG 3020 series for operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%. The use of green hydrogen from sustainable production in gas engines represents a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels for heat and power generation.

      Key Highlights:

      * MWM gas engines are already suited for natural gas operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 10 vol% without any technical modifications.

      * The TCG 3020 gas engines are suitable for permanent operation, base load supply, and peak load operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%.

      * The hydrogen admixture of 25 vol% in gas engines can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent compared to natural gas-only operation.

      Original Press Release:

Mannheim, Sept. 18 -- MWM issued the following news release:

The newly launched MWM TCG 3020 gas engine series supports operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol% without any technical modifications. In addition to new engines, MWM offers operators of existing plants the MWM 25H2 kit for retrofitting gas engines of the TCG 3020 series for operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%.

More Sustainable Energy Generation with Hydrogen-Fueled Gas Engines

In order to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 as planned by the European Union, plant operators need to comply with stricter laws and regulations for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Distributed energy generation of tomorrow depends on eco-friendly fuels from renewable sources. For the generation of heat and power with gas engines, green hydrogen from sustainable production represents a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.

All MWM gas engines are already suited for natural gas operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 10 vol% without any technical modifications. To help plant operators comply with emission limits and achieve their climate goals, MWM now offers the engines of the TCG 3020 series in the output range from 1,380 to 2,300 kWel for operation with hydrogen. TCG 3020 gas engines are suitable for permanent operation, base load supply, and peak load operation with natural gas with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%. The hydrogen admixture of 25 vol% enables plant operators to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent compared to natural gas-only operation.

MWM 25H2 kit for Existing Plants

MWM offers operators of existing plants with the TCG 3020 series the 25H2 kit for retrofitting the gas engines for operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 vol%. By making use of hydrogen admixtures as fuel, the plant operation is possible in accordance with regulations for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, plants with hydrogen-based gas engines form the basis for sustainable distributed energy generation of tomorrow.

      MWM Hydrogen Power

By launching hydrogen solutions for gas engines under the MWM brand, Caterpillar Energy Solutions presents new opportunities in the important field of climate-friendly fuels. With its range of gas engines and products that allow the use of hydrogen, Caterpillar Energy Solutions supports its customers in complying with emission limits and ensuring long-term economic viability of the plants. With its MWM brand, Caterpillar Energy Solutions is a member of Allianz Wasserstoffmotor e.V. (Hydrogen Engine Alliance), which promotes climate-neutral mobility and generation of green power with hydrogen engines.
