GetBlok Farms to buy RECs from Engie wind farm in Texas

    September 21, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

September 21 (Renewables Now) - US container farms operator GetBlok Farms has sealed a deal to buy Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) associated with the 302.4-MW Priddy wind farm in Texas owned by French energy utility group Engie SA (EPA:ENGI).

The RECs under the two-year agreement are expected to cover the forecasted power consumption of GetBlok’s hydroponics farm in West Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Priddy wind farm is located in Mills County, a rural area of central Texas, and provides power to ERCOT North. The 63-turbine site was commissioned in February 2022.

"Not only is this one of the first customer announcements for renewable energy from the Priddy Wind Project, it is one of the first hydroponic farms in our portfolio of customers," said Taymur Bunkheila, director of sustainability solutions and energy+ initiatives at ENGIE Resources.
