AMEA Power secures PPA for 25-MWp solar project in Uganda

    September 22, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

September 22 (Renewables Now) - Dubai-based AMEA Power LLC has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 25-MWp solar project to be realised in Uganda with Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL).

AMEA Power has also inked an implementation agreement (IA) with the local Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD).

“This makes the project the first East African Community (EAC) country transaction for AMEA Power, and sets the stage for future expansion into the wind and battery energy storage sectors in Uganda and the wider EAC Region,” the company noted in a LinkedIn post.

AMEA Power has a portfolio of more than 1.2 GW of clean energy projects either in operation or under construction in Burkina Faso, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Togo. In East Africa, the company is active in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti along with Uganda.
