Sunmaxx starts work on 50 MW PVT module plant in Germany

    September 25, 2023 - SeeNews Renewables

September 25 (Renewables Now) - Sunmaxx PVT GmbH, a Dresden-based maker of photovoltaic-thermal solar (PVT) modules, has started construction of a manufacturing facility with an annual capacity of 50 MW.

The plant will be located on an existing production site in Ottendorf-Okrilla, near Dresden in Saxony. Sunmaxx said on Friday it will be the world’s largest PVT production facility.

The company’s products are aimed at helping to decarbonise heat and electricity supply for buildings, neighborhoods and industrial sites.

Sunmaxx plans to open the first line in the current year with an eye on expanding production in the future to up to 3 GW.

Chief executive Wilhelm Stein said that rather than competing with Asian companies on existing technologies, Europe should focus on the development and support of technologies that can show an innovative edge and ensure regional value creation.
