WB team reviews power sector restructuring

September 25, 2023 - Sri Lanka Daily News

SRI LANKA, Sept. 23 -- A World Bank team assisting in the ongoing process of electricity sector reforms visited the Power and Energy Ministry on Thursday to look into the ongoing process of power and energy sector restructuring.

This is revealed by a Twitter message of Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara. Accordingly, the World Bank (WB) has been assisting the proposed reforms carried out at the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) with technical assistance in analysing the financial situations of CEB. Besides, the WB assists in the transfer plans and legal framework of the restructuring process.

"We discussed the possibility of implementing a communication platform on reforms, competitive bidding structures for renewable energy, technical and financial assistance for energy efficiency," the Minister said.

Energy experts of the World Bank including Head of the Power Sector Reform Secretariat participated in the meeting.
