September 29 (Renewables Now) - Italian energy company ERG SpA (BIT:ERG) said on Friday that it has renovated its Camporeale wind farm in Sicily, raising its capacity to 50.4 MW, and proceeded to energisation.
The wind farm, located in Palermo, is ERG’s second repowering project following the renovation of Partinico Monreale.
Camporeale is now equipped with 12 units of the Vestas 4.2-MW turbines. The new machines will enable the wind farm to generate around 86 GWh per year.
In its previous form, the wind farm featured 24 turbines of 0.85-MW and produced some 31 GWh of electricity annually, ERG said.
The repowered Camporeale is entitled to a 20-year tariff, which the company secured in Italy’s 7th renewable energy tender, as announced in January 2022.
The project is part of ERG’s repowering plan, which involves upgrading 15 plants in Italy, CEO Paolo Merli added.
