Turkmenistan significantly increases natural gas supplies to China

Trend News Agency

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. Turkmenistan increased natural gas exports via pipeline to China for 2022, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

During the reporting period, Turkmenistan exported $10.25 billion worth of natural gas to China, which is 51 percent more than in 2021.

Turkmenistan continues to be the leader among gas exporters to China, with Russia coming in second.

Currently, Turkmen gas is supplied to China via three pipelines running along the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China route. Their total throughput capacity is 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Furthermore, an agreement was reached in February 2022 on the construction of the fourth line of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China. It is expected that its commissioning will allow Turkmenistan to increase annual gas supplies to 65 billion cubic meters.

Turkmenistan exported about 34 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China in 2021.
