Author Suzy Roeder has taken a novel approach to explain wind turbines and renewable energy to children, using a farm in the Midwest as a backdrop.

"Wendel the Wind Turbine" follows an anthropomorphic wind turbine as he learns about himself and how he makes electricity to power the farm. Readers are introduced to Wendel as he's installed, taking the place of an old windmill, and follow along as he works through the seasons, discovering more about himself and his community.

"This story is about more than just a wind turbine," said Roeder. "Wendel learns that we can help and support each other with kindness, and that each of us is created with gifts, not only for our own lives but for the world."

"Wendel the Wind Turbine" is also a family affair; the book is filled with bright, colorful illustrations that were created by Roeder's daughter, Marie Wiedefeld. The two worked together to bring life to Wendel and his surroundings.
