Rampal plant resumes power generation after month-long closure

    DHAKA: The official news Agency of Bangladesh (BSS) has issued following news release:

    The 1st unit of Rampal 1320 MG Power Plant resumed its operation on Wednesday night after a month of closure due to coal shortage.

    Anwarul Azim, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL), also known as Rampal Power Plant, said electricity generation at the 1st unit of Rampal coal-fired power plant resumed around 12 midnight.

    "We need 5,000 tonnes of coal per day to keep one unit operational. We received a consignment of 30,000 metric tons of coal on Wednesday. Another consignment of 50,000 metric tons of coal is coming within few days" Anwarul Azim said.

    He hoped it will be possible to keep the unit operational regularly from now.

    On 14 January, power generation at the first unit was shut down due to coal shortage.
