Italy-based green power firm GreenIT and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have decided to develop three floating offshore wind farms in Sardinia and Latium, Italy. GreenIT is a joint venture between CDP Equity and Eni Plenitude, focused on the development, management, and construction of green power production units. The new floating offshore wind facilities, totalling almost 2 GW, will be positioned nearly 30 km from the coast. The first wind unit will be developed in Latium, off the coast of Civitavecchia, and will have an overall capacity of up to 540 MW. The remaining two facilities will be situated off the coast of Olbia, Sardinia, with roughly 500 MW and 1000 MW each. The projects will jointly generate almost 5 TWh/y with commercial operation anticipated between 2028 and 2031. These will open subject to the authorization process and construction stage completion. GreenIT disclosed that its offshore wind portfolio in the country will reach around 3 GW with a clean power production of about 7 TWh/y. This is enough to address the use of almost 2.5 M homes and contribute to the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan for 2030. Original Source: NS Energy, http://www.nsenergybusiness.com.
