According to Kjetil Lund, Director General of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), extraordinary measures are needed to develop enough power to achieve Norway's climate and industrial policy goals. He says there are few applications for development of hydropower, wind power and solar power. Lund also points out that the projects applied for will take time to realise, due to thorough processes including local debates, environmental assessments and grid development. Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre recently promised that the Government will provide cheaper electricity during this decade. The plan calls for a large-scale expansion of renewable energy, national control and energy efficiency.
