May 23 (Renewables Now) - German silicon wafer manufacturer Siltronic AG (ETR:WAF) will offtake 60 GWh of solar energy per year to power its production sites in the federal states of Bavaria and Saxony.

The contracted electricity will be supplied by a unit of Swiss renewable energy producer and trader Axpo Holding AG from solar parks in Germany under a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA), the two companies said on Tuesday.

Starting in 2024, Siltronic's locations in Burghausen, Bavaria, and Freiberg, Saxony will receive clean electricity at a fixed price and according to a predetermined schedule. The amount of power to be delivered is equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 20,000 households in Germany.

"We aim to halve our directly caused greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by the year 2030. With the new contract, we are getting a big step closer to this ambitious goal," said Siltronic's chief executive Michael Heckmeier.
