Eneva begins commercial operation of 692-MW solar complex in Brazil

    May 30 (Renewables Now) - Brazilian natural gas and power company Eneva SA (B3:ENEV3) has commenced full operation of the 692.4-MWac Futurta 1 solar photovoltaic (PV) complex in Bahia state.

    The company announced on Monday it received approval from local power sector regulator Aneel on May 26.

    Located in the municipality of Juazeiro do Norte, the PV complex is comprised of 22 solar farms, making it one of the largest of its kind in the country. With Futura 1 fully operational, the total centralised solar generation capacity in the Brazilian electricity mix has risen by 8%, Eneva said.

    At the beginning of the month, the company signed a joint venture partnership with local Industrial and medical gases firm White Martins, under which the latter will procure 100.6 average megawatts (MWa) from Futura 1 during a 12-year period.
