Omani research team designs integrated monitoring system for smart grid

Oman Daily Observer

MUSCAT: A research team from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) succeeded in designing an integrated system for measuring and monitoring the wide area of Oman's electricity transmission network.

The system indicates the status and stability of the electrical network, with a view to achieving safe operation and raising its reliability. Dr Amer bin Saif al Hinai, Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, ViceChancellor of Sultan Qaboos University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, said that the research team embarked on a simulation model for the smart grid.

The project seeks to identity the weaknesses and forge appropriate solutions, he added. He pointed out that Oman is linked with other GCC states via the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority.

The smart grid technology will be essential in providing homes and establishments in Oman with reliable and sustainable energy.
